Sbarro, best known as a food court staple selling pizza by the slice, was ready to reinvent their iconic locations. After internal tumult and an exit from bankruptcy, the brand’s refocused efforts on bringing quality ingredients to the forefront required revamped environmental language (including investing in free standing, dine-in stores and drive-thru stores) that matched this new corporate direction. Sbarro came to Chipman Design Architecture looking for a modern, clean vernacular to re-introduce themselves to the public.
In rethinking the signature mall locations, the CDA team worked with Sbarro operations to redevelop how the food is displayed and design millwork fixtures around the goal of freshness in mall locations. Additionally, with an innate understanding of both the brand's operations and back of house goals, Chipman Design Architecture was asked to design test kitchens at the brand's headquarters to be used for training, menu testing, and equipment trial.
