HOKA aimed to make a strong impression with their entry into the US market, particularly in New York City. The store needed to deliver a striking retail experience on the first floor and include a versatile cellar space for hosting events.
CDA faced significant challenges, including a condensed timeframe for technical development following an extended design phase. One key challenge was avoiding the addition of a new front entry vestibule. This was resolved by installing a frameless glass storefront and door system in the cellar, which separated interior areas to comply with code while maximizing upper-level sales floor space and enhancing the customer entry experience. Materials from the previous tenant, such as wood wall slats, were repurposed into a new suspended slat ceiling with integrated LED lighting. Additionally, recycled rubber flooring, porcelain and ceramic tiles, low VOC paint, a custom "rock wall," corrugated metal, and an open grid aluminum suspended ceiling were used. These choices aligned with the brand's sustainable image and supported the LEED certification effort.
