The Ask

Faherty wanted to revitalize ahistoric 1890s wood-framed cottage in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, which had served various commercial purposes over the years, into a modern, functional two-story retail space. The project required the building to be accessible and fully shoppable, while preserving its historic charm.

The Task

To meet the client's vision, CDA carried out extensive renovations, including new front landscaping, security gates, and an ADA-compliant entry ramp. The building’s exterior was upgraded with durable cement board siding and trim, while a custom stairway was constructed to connect both floors seamlessly. Inside, accessible restrooms and ADA-compliant fitting rooms were added on both levels. Design elements like hex tiles, metal grilles, and natural wood tones were carefully selected to evoke a modern, beach house-inspired atmosphere, all while complying with commercial codes and collaborating with Faherty’s design team.
