A customer-favorite, Buddy’s Pizza is a Michigan-based pizza concept with exceptional growth potential. The client approached Chipman Design to create design and architectural standards to support their accelerated development throughout the Midwest. Founded in 1946, Buddy’s Rendezvous Pizzeria on Six Mile and Conant street on Detroit’s east side was integral in cooking up what is now known as Detroit-style pizza. The team was tasked with creating a design that paid homage to the 75-year history of the brand, while developing a comfortable and modern environment for today’s diner.
To support a flexible dine-in experience, the Chipman team created zones within the space that featured a robust bar experience, loose furniture that could be joined for community gatherings, and intimate booths for date night. Partnering with local fabricators, the team took creative approaches to the industrial touches within the space, utilizing custom wallcovering to mimic a brick wall. Equally important was ensuring that the customer journey was clear and frictionless, regardless of whether the guest was dining in or getting takeout. A separate carryout entrance with branded signage was incorporated into the plan to streamline operations.
