O'Hare International Food Court
Terminal 5, O'Hare International Airport
Centerplate partnered with Chipman Design Architecture to create a high-end collection of Chicago-based restaurant concepts within the International Terminal at O’Hare Airport. Known as Terminal 5, the project brings together a range of established local brands into a cohesive dining experience within a high-traffic travel environment.
Chipman Design Architecture led the architectural design of the food hall and multiple tenant spaces, coordinating closely with a European design partner to adapt concepts for the U.S. market. The work required careful consideration of materials, durability and operational performance, ensuring each restaurant could withstand the demands of an airport setting while maintaining its individual identity.
The project involved coordination with a broad range of stakeholders, including the FAA, airport authorities, city agencies, union representatives and individual restaurant operators. Working alongside Lettuce Entertain You Group and other partners, CDA helped translate each concept into a format that supports both brand integrity and the constraints of the terminal environment.
One year after opening, the transformation significantly increased overall sales performance, reinforcing the impact of a more thoughtful, hospitality-driven approach to airport dining.
