Wellspring Retirement Center
Cincinnati, OH
Chipman Design Architecture has worked with Senior Lifestyle Corporation across multiple communities nationwide, developing environments tailored to each location and resident population. At Wellspring in Cincinnati, the project centered on reimagining an existing portion of the campus while building on its historic character.
Chipman Design Architecture led the design of an underutilized atrium space, transforming it into a functional and welcoming area that supports daily use for residents and visitors. The approach focused on removing outdated elements and introducing a more cohesive material and lighting strategy, shifting the space from something transitional into a place intended for gathering.
The design takes cues from the broader campus, which is anchored by a historic Greek Revival mansion, carrying that sense of refinement into the interior through pattern, color and artwork. Public areas were developed with more contrast and definition to support arrival and activity, while adjacent memory care environments were designed to feel calmer and more continuous, with softer transitions and a more subdued palette.
This initial phase established a clear direction for the broader campus, providing a framework that could be extended into future renovations while maintaining consistency in how spaces function and feel.
